How to do Nail Art?

Looking for a beautiful way to spice up your look? Nail art can complement your outfit for a special event or add a unique flair to your appearance everyday. With the development in the nail industry today, you can now adopt many simple techniques to create nail art yourself!

1. Make sure your nails are in good shape. You don't need a manicure to start creating nail art, but you do need to make sure that your nails are clean and shaped well enough that they look even.

2. Choose the right products. There are a multitude of different paints and polishes available for nail art, and your choice of products is completely up to you.

  • Experiment with a few different brands and types of polish to see which you like best, and don’t forget to give acrylic craft paints a try—these work great and you're able to choose from a variety of implements to help you apply your paint.

See Emart on OPI Lacquer, SpaRitual Lacquer, PA Lacquer.

  • Glitter and rhinestones help to bring out sparkle and provide a good platform of simple art if you can't really draw. They are very simple to apply and add dimensional shine instantly! Good quality rhinestones are also re-usable after cleaning,  therefore a MUST-HAVE for nail art.

See E-mart on Rhinestones and Glitter

  • Nail stickers are ready products for easy application. Just peel off the design and stick them onto the desired location on nail. 15 mins application for a full set of 3D pop up effect.

See E-mart on Stickers.

  • Nail stamps are especially popular since they allow you to have miniature art drawings on nails instantly. A very good replacement if you can't draw well. 15 mins for a full set of stamping art.

See E-mart on Nail Stamps.

  • While you can create art on your natural nails, you may wish to also try them on artificial nail tips. This way, you can disply your work as a hobby, and you can also prepare a set to wear for yourself and show off! Also available as Ready to Wear, you prepare your set of Nail Art and stick them onto your nails. Art preparation time depends on individual. Sticking application requires only 15 mins.

See E-mart on Nail Tips and Ready to Wear.

  • Perhaps most importantly, though, make sure that you have polish remover and an orange stick available solely for correcting the mistakes. Art tools are useful for practise and they generally last for a long time if used properly.

See E-mart for Art Tools.

3. Look for ideas and techniques. This website provides you with very good tutorials and gallery for you to spin off your ideas. But if you have trouble coming up with ideas after a while, or if you want to get more in-depth information about techniques, consider picking up nail magazines. They are published with new ideas on a monthly basis and there are a variety of them available at the bookstores.
See Nail Art Samples for more reference.

4. Get your materials ready. Some art work techniques require you to work on them while they are still wet. You'll be constantly working against the clock when you’re creating it, since the paints and polishes dry fairly quickly. Before you begin, make sure you have everything you need ready and accessible, especially the polish remover for quickly removing mistakes.

5. Give your nails a base coat. You create the backdrop color after your base coat is dry. Depending on the look you’re going for, you can paint your nails a neutral color, such as clear, white, pale beige or pink, or you can paint them any other color you desire. Otherwise, you may refer to our article on How to Chose Nail Color. For creativity, you may also wish to divide the nail into two or three different colors. Do two coats, as it strengthens the nail and gives a better finish. Make sure they are neat and even, and allow it to dry thoroughly before proceeding.

6. Create your nail art when your nail color is dry. Keep your art simple if you are a beginner. As a beginner, you learn faster if you have a reference to look at. If you have enough experience, you can now apply your creativity or any ideas that you would like to have on your nails.
See Nail Art Samples for more reference.

7. Apply a top coat seal and protect your nail and your hard work. Reapplying top coat every two or three days help to keep your nails look shiny and make your nail art last longer.

8. To maintain your manicure and pedicure, always apply cuticle oil daily. Treat your nails with care—wear gloves when gardening or doing other “doing work,” and exercise caution when performing tasks, such as opening soda cans, that may damage your nails.
